Sand Viper (see Snake).

The viper is a very venomous serpent in the Middle East. (Acts 28:3)

It was an actual snake, but also represented a type of person, somebody who was spiritually deadly, somebody who embodies lies, deception, malice, a corrupt heart. Lying seems to be very basic in this concept.
